Born in Haifa and raised in Cairo, Durzi arrived in Boston at age seventeen to study electrical engineering at Northeastern University. After nearly ten years working as an engineer, he decided running a cafe would be a better fit and ultimately opened Cafe Algiers in 1971. In his spare time, Emile collected antique books, stamps, and oriental rugs. He was an accomplished organist and an avid theologist. He was also a lifelong proponent of the Palestinian people and helped many international students in the Boston area while they studied there. |
