A scrap of the donor's Sitti Khadra's scarf. Sitti Khadra lived to the age of 106, in Sinjil Village, West Bank. Nye wrote the children's book, Sitti's Secrets, which was published in 1994. The book is dedicated "For Sitti Khadra Shihab Idais Al-Zer of Palestine, still alive at 105, and all grandmothers everywhere who give our lives gravity and light." Naomi Shihab Nye is a highly decorated author and poet. Born in St. Louis Missouri to a Palestinian father and American-Swiss mother, she crew up between Jerusalem and San Antonio, Texas. |
