Description |
Arabic drum called derbake, darbukkah, or tablah. The tablah is a goblet-shaped hand-drum with a single skin-head. It is used predominantly in modern Arab ensembles. Originally a folk instrument played in various festivities especially for dance accompaniment, it has retained a certain association with popular entertainment. Today, the instrument has a metal body covered with a plastic head, instead of the natural clay and fish skin, as was the case until recent decades. This example has a silver-toned metal body, and is engraved with, Made In Syria. The head is made of plastic and attaches to the body with screws and wingnuts. |
