Necklace, silver. Rectangular shaped pendant on chain, with cylindrical locket below. This item was displayed at the ACCESS Main Gallery. Its label read, "The many necklaces and silver ornaments above are from Yemen. They represent a wide variety of styles worn in different parts of the Arab world and at different historical periods. They include chokers worn on the neck; larger strings of amber, coral and silver beads, triangular ornaments worn on women's scarves with tassels which mimic the swaying motion of hair; and rectangular pieces inset with stones and glass often containing lockets which would hold writings from the Qur'an to protect the wearer from harm or provide her with a blessing." |
