British Passport no 121253 (6"x4") maroon hard cover torn at side and at edges. Cover has the British Royal emblem, with the word PALESTINE underneath it, and in ink Mr. Judeh Hanna Judeh. On the reverse side is Arabic and Hebrew print: "Passport, Palestine Government" Issued 15th of July 1939. After the 1967 Israeli occupation, Judeh Hanna Judeh, a tailor in Ramallah, became concerned with the safety of his family, especially his holder two sons. He had already become a refugee in 1948, when he lost his hop and shop in Jaffa. Along with his wife and then only child, Judeh settled in Ramallah and opened a new tailor shop. After the Israelis occupied the West Bank, Judeh decided to leave his business and start a new life in search of safety and stability for his family. Judeh and his town sons, Hanna and Jad, left Ramallah exactly two years after the Israeli occupation. They arrived in Chicago in June 1969. He left behind his wife and seven children. A few months later, 15-year-old Jezail joined her father and two brothers. Judeh found employment at a tailor's shop in downtown Chicago. In March 1970, his wife Victoria and five of their children joined the rest of the family. In June 1970, the whole family moved to the Detroit area. The older two sons found employment at Detroit Diesel, a car motor factory, and Judeh found a job as a tailor at Crowley's where he worked until he retired in 1986. |
