Description |
A quilted, red Eddie Bauer Down jacket worn by the donor in his exploration of Antarctica. The left breast of the jacket bears the patch of the United States Antarctic Program, National Science Foundation. Hand written above the patch is the donor's last name "DOUMANI." A veteran of five scientific expeditions to Antarctica, George Doumani is the only Arab American to have explored the continent's interior. Doumani's research as a geologist helped prove the theory of continental drift. Two geographical features in Antarctica have been named for him by the National Board of Geographic Names. They are: Mount Doumani and Doumani Peak. |
