Description |
Galvanized painted metal trunk, circa 1970. The trunk is painted in royal blue. On the front panel of the trunk are painted a set of onion domed structures. There is one silver handle centered on long opening side, and a handle on each of the short sides. The inside of the trunk is mostly unpainted though the inside of the lid has 20 small painted spirals stamped onto it. The top of lid is most likely decoratively painted, though it is covered with "Sunview Brand Table Grapes" adhesive labels. This was brought by donor Ali Abdallah from Yemen to the U.S. during his immigration in 1970. He joined his uncle in employment at Sunview Farms in Delano, California. There, he lived in the vinyard's housing which was convenient, though void of decoration. Ali covered this trunk in Sunview Farm labels, adding color to the colorless surroundings. |
