Description |
Circular wooden bread stamp or Easter cookie stamp. Made before 1911 (the earliest known year of its use, per the donor). This bread stamp belonged to Tamam "Mamie" Lasher (donor's mother) from Darmimas (also spelled Deir Mimas,) Lebanon. The small end of the stamp would be used to stamp holy bread in the Greek Orthodox Church and the large side would be used for easter cookies. According to folk tradition, the rivets around the edge of the large stamp represent the crown of thorns that Christ wore. |
