Description |
Color photograph from a newspaper article of Ismael Ahmed infront of the mural he and other ACCESS staff painted on their building in 1980. It represents the diversity and resilience of Dearborn's Southend community. This was printed with a quote from Ahmed: "When I was a kid, all I wanted to do was get away from this. You gotta remember that growing up here, I was part of...a group that was looked down on by the rest of the world....It wasn't until I was older that I came back and realized that here were the people that I cared about....There's something that we all shared. It wasn't just Arab people - it's immigrant people as a whole....I think that everybody talks about changing things or working for change, but very few people really do it....I really believe that one person or a group of people can make a big difference." |
