Description |
Black and white studio photograph circa 1920 of seated man holding a baby, with children standing next to him. Noted as: Donor's father, brother Mike, William (donor), sisters Ann and Margaret. William Jacobs was a business school graduate and typist before being inducted into the Army in 1941. His 83rd Infantry Division (nicknamed the "Thunderbolts") left for Europe on April 16, 1944. They landed on Omaha Beach on June 18, 1944 - only days after the D-Day invasion. Jacobs and the 83rd also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He returned to his native Pennsylvania after the war and lived to the age of 93. |
