Description |
Black and white photograph of a baker placing cookies on a large tray in an industrial kitchen. Appears on page 63 of the book Arab Americans in Metro Detroit. Caption: In 1993, a baker at Al-Masri Sweets, a Palestinian bakery in Dearborn, prepars mamoul [also spelled ma'amoul] - a popular cookie filled with ground nuts or dates. Since the 1970s, with a larger influx of Arab immigrants, restaurants, bakeries, halal butchers, and grocery stores line the streets of Dearborn. Al-Masri Sweets is one of the few non-Lebanese bakeries offering Palestinian specialties, as well as other popular Arab pastries and French-style cakes." |
