Notes |
Genealogical records for Nicholas George Mackoul's paternal grandfather Moses Mackoul indicates that the family was from a town called Mahitee, which some sources suggest is in present-day northern Lebanon, but at the writing of this document in the early 1930s, was considered Syrian. For lack of more concrete information, the subject's nationality is listed as Syrian. Enlisted 30 October 1942 at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, as an aviation cadet. He later attained the rank of Second Lieutenant, having served with the 723rd Bomber Squadron, 450th Bomber Group. He was killed in action during his 25th flying mission, where he was to bomb the West Marshalling Yards in Innsbruck, Austria. He was interred at the Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial. |
